Quick Fixes for Common App Performance Issues
The Science Scholars Academy (SSA) app is built to deliver high-quality video lectures, complex mathematical formulas, and heavy PDF documents directly to your mobile device. While we strive to optimize the app for peak performance, you might occasionally run into minor technical hiccups—like a buffering video, a sluggish interface, or a file that won’t load.
Before you panic or reach out to support, try these quick troubleshooting steps to resolve the most common performance issues.
1. Check Your Network Connection
Because the SSA app streams premium educational content, a weak internet connection is the number one cause of buffering or loading errors.
- Test Your Speed: Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection. If you are using cellular data (4G/5G), verify that you have a strong signal. You can try loading a web page in your browser to confirm your internet is working.
- Toggle Airplane Mode: Sometimes, simply turning Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds and then turning it off can force your device to reconnect to the strongest available network tower.
- The Offline Solution: If you are in an area with notoriously bad internet (like on a train or in a basement library), we highly recommend downloading your videos and PDFs via Wi-Fi at home using our Offline Mode. This allows you to bypass the need for an internet connection entirely while studying.
2. Force-Restart the App
If the SSA app feels unresponsive, a screen freezes, or a PDF refuses to load, your current session may have encountered a temporary glitch. A quick “force close” will refresh the app’s memory.
- On iPhone/iPad (iOS): Swipe up from the bottom of your screen and pause slightly in the middle to open the App Switcher. Swipe right or left to find the SSA app, then swipe up on the app’s preview card to close it. Tap the SSA icon on your home screen to reopen it.
- On Android: Swipe up from the bottom of your screen, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the SSA app card to close it. Alternatively, go to Settings > Apps > SSA and tap Force Stop.
3. Clear the App Cache
Over time, the SSA app saves temporary files (called “cache”) to help menus load faster and save bandwidth. However, if these temporary files become corrupted, they can cause the app to run sluggishly. Clearing your cache is a safe way to speed things up without deleting your account data or downloaded offline files.
How to clear cache on Android:
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Tap on Apps (or App Management).
- Scroll down and select the SSA app.
- Tap on Storage & cache.
- Tap Clear Cache. (Warning: Do not tap “Clear Storage” or “Clear Data,” as this will log you out and delete your downloaded offline videos!)
How to clear cache on iOS (iPhone/iPad): Apple devices manage cache automatically, but you can force a refresh by “offloading” the app.
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Go to General > iPhone Storage.
- Scroll down and tap on the SSA app.
- Tap Offload App. This removes the app’s core code to free up space while keeping your personal data and downloaded documents safe.
- Tap Reinstall App to download a fresh, optimized version from the App Store.
4. Check for Updates
Our development team is constantly releasing updates to fix bugs, improve video playback speeds, and introduce new features. If you are running an outdated version of the app, you may experience performance issues that have already been solved!
- Open the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Search for “Science Scholars Academy.”
- If you see an Update button, tap it. If it says Open, you are already on the latest version.
