Studying Off the Grid: Your Guide to SSA's Offline Mode
A bad internet connection shouldn’t get in the way of your education. Whether you have a long bus commute, are traveling on a flight without Wi-Fi, or simply want to disconnect from social media distractions while you hit the books, the Science Scholars Academy (SSA) app has you covered.
Our powerful Offline Mode allows you to download high-quality video lectures and interactive PDF study guides directly to your mobile device. Here is everything you need to know about taking your STEM studies off the grid.
1. How to Download Course Materials
Downloading resources in the SSA app is incredibly simple. You can download individual files as you need them, preventing your phone from filling up with content you aren’t ready to study yet.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: We highly recommend connecting to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading, especially for full-length video lectures, to avoid using up your cellular data plan.
- Locate the Download Icon: As you browse through your course modules, look for the downward-facing arrow icon (the Download button) located next to video lectures, PDF study guides, and formula sheets.
- Start the Download: Tap the icon. A circular progress bar will appear, letting you know the file is actively downloading.
- Confirmation: Once finished, the icon will change to a solid checkmark, indicating the file is safely stored on your device.
2. Where to Find Your Offline Content
You don’t need to hunt through your phone’s internal file manager to find your study materials! We keep everything organized for you within the app.
- Navigate to your main dashboard and tap the Offline Files (or Downloads) tab on the bottom menu.
- Inside this tab, your downloaded materials are neatly organized by course and subject.
- Even if you turn on Airplane mode or completely lose cell service, you can open this tab and instantly play videos or read PDFs without any buffering or loading times.
3. Understanding Storage and Security
Because SSA provides premium, proprietary educational content, our offline system is built with security in mind.
- In-App Viewing Only: You might notice that your downloaded videos do not show up in your phone’s camera roll or gallery. This is intentional! Downloaded SSA materials are heavily encrypted and stored within a secure, hidden directory on your device. They can only be opened, decrypted, and viewed from inside the SSA app.
- Managing Phone Space: Video files take up more storage space than PDFs. If your smartphone is warning you that your storage is almost full, you can easily delete old videos from the Offline tab. Simply swipe left on the file you have finished studying and tap “Remove Download.”
- Progress Syncing: Don’t worry about losing your course progress when studying offline. The SSA app will remember which videos you watched and which PDFs you read while entirely offline. The second your phone reconnects to the internet, the app will quietly sync your progress back to our cloud servers, ensuring your analytics dashboard is always up to date.
