Getting Started with the SSA App
Welcome to Science Scholars Academy (SSA)! You are taking a massive step toward mastering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Before you can dive into our interactive physics lectures or download advanced calculus cheat sheets, you need to set up your student profile. The SSA app is highly personalized, meaning the better your profile is set up, the better we can recommend the right courses for you.
Here is a step-by-step guide to creating your account and customizing your learning experience.
1. Creating Your Account
We know you want to get straight to studying, so we have made the sign-up process as frictionless as possible. When you open the SSA app for the first time, you will be greeted by the welcome screen.
You have two primary ways to create an account:
- Single Sign-On (Fastest): Tap the “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple” button. This securely links your SSA account to your existing Google or Apple ID, meaning you will never have to remember a separate password to log in.
- Email Sign-Up: If you prefer to use a standard email address, tap “Sign Up.” Enter your email, create a strong password, and check your inbox for a quick verification link. Once verified, you are ready to log in!
2. Customizing Your Avatar
Your profile is your personal space within the academy. Make it yours by adding a custom avatar!
- Navigate to the Profile tab on the bottom navigation bar.
- Tap the default profile picture (or the placeholder icon) at the top of the screen.
- You will be prompted to either Take a Photo using your phone’s camera or Choose from Gallery.
- Once you select a photo, our built-in image cropper will appear. You can pinch, zoom, and adjust the crop box to ensure your face is perfectly centered.
- Tap Save, and your new avatar will instantly update across the app!
3. Setting Your Educational Preferences
This is the most important step for a tailored learning experience. Science Scholars Academy caters to a wide variety of students, from high schoolers tackling introductory biology to college students mastering organic chemistry.
To ensure your dashboard isn’t cluttered with content that is too easy or too advanced for you, update your preferences:
- Update Your Name: Ensure your first and last name are entered correctly in the Account Details section. This is how your name will appear on any certificates of completion you earn.
- Select Your Grade Level: In the settings menu, look for Class or Grade. Select your current level (e.g., S.3 etc.).
- Choose Your Interests: The app may ask you to select which subjects you are most interested in (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Biology).
By providing this information, the SSA algorithm will automatically prioritize and suggest the most relevant courses, study guides, and video lectures on your home screen.
4. Enable Notifications for Study Success
Finally, before you leave the settings menu, make sure your push notifications are turned on! Consistency is the secret to mastering STEM. By allowing notifications, you permit the SSA app to send you gentle daily study reminders, alerts when a new course module is published, and updates from your instructors.
(You can always fine-tune exactly which notifications you receive in the Settings > Notifications menu).
