SSA Website and Mobile App
Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 2026

At Science Scholars Academy (“SSA”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), we are deeply committed to protecting the privacy and security of our students and users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our website (studywithssa.com) or use our mobile and web applications (the “Platform”).

By accessing or using the Platform, you consent to the data practices described in this policy, which align with the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us, as well as data collected automatically when you use our Platform.

  • Personal Identification Information: When you register for an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and account credentials.
  • Payment Information: If you purchase a course, your payment details (such as Mobile Money numbers or card details) are processed securely by our trusted third-party payment gateways. SSA does not store your full financial information on our servers.
  • Usage and Learning Data: We track your progress, courses purchased, videos watched, and PDFs accessed to provide a personalized learning experience and issue relevant transaction memos.
  • Device and Technical Data: We automatically collect certain information about your device, including your IP address, device type, operating system (iOS, Android, Web), and unique device identifiers. This is especially important for managing our secure offline download features.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following educational and operational purposes:

  • Account Management: To create, authenticate, and manage your student or admin account securely using Firebase Authentication.
  • Service Delivery: To deliver high-quality video lectures, rendered math formulas, and PDF resources directly to your device.
  • Offline Access & Security: To authorize and encrypt downloaded materials for offline viewing, ensuring that our intellectual property is not extracted or shared on unauthorized platforms.
  • Communication: To send you administrative memos, payment receipts, technical notices, and updates regarding new courses.
  • Improvement: To analyze usage trends and improve the performance of our Flutter applications and Node.js backend infrastructure.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share data under the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We share necessary data with trusted third-party services that power our Platform. This includes our database provider (Google Firebase/Firestore), our backend hosting (Google Cloud Run), and our secure file delivery networks (Cloudflare R2/AWS S3). These providers are bound by strict data processing agreements.
  • Payment Processors: Information required to process transactions is shared securely with our authorized payment gateways (e.g., Mobile Money aggregators).
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by Ugandan law, in response to a court order, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of SSA, our users, or others.

4. Data Security

We implement robust, industry-standard security measures to protect your data. User data is stored in secure Firebase databases with strict access control rules. Our backend APIs enforce CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) policies to prevent unauthorized access, and all data transmissions between your device and our servers are encrypted via HTTPS/SSL.

5. Your Data Rights

Under the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you have specific rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You can request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Correction: You may update or correct inaccurate information directly within your student profile.
  • Right to Deletion: You can request the deletion of your account and associated personal data, subject to our legal and accounting retention obligations.
  • Right to Object: You may opt out of promotional communications at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact our support team.

6. Children's Privacy

While SSA provides educational content for students (including those at the UCE and UACE levels), children under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to create an account and make purchases on the Platform.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our technology or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the SSA app or updating the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
